Surgical Abortion

We provide Surgical Abortion services from 5 weeks to 17.3 weeks (17 weeks 3 days) gestation, based on last normal menstrual period, using the vacuum aspiration method. The actual measurement of gestation is determined by ultrasound on the date of the procedure. Estimate your gestation period with our Pregnancy Calculator .

A surgical abortion involves:
• Registration including completion of medical history and consent forms
• Ultrasound to determine gestation
• Lab work to get vital signs and to draw blood for anemia level and Rh factor
• Counseling to assist in completing medical forms and to answer patient questions
• Surgery with twilight anesthesia
• Recovery period

The abortion fee includes the above services. There is an additional fee for patients with Rh-negative blood needing Rhogam and patients with MVP or heart murmur. We accept most insurance plans and our insurance department would be pleased to assist you with your insurance coverage questions.

Patients from pregnant up to 12 weeks are in their First Trimester of gestation. The standard procedure for this type of termination is vacuum aspiration or suction curettage, also referred to as a D&C. A patient does have the option to undergo Twilight anesthesia with this procedure. You can find out more about First Trimester Abortions here.

A patient who is 12 to 17.3 weeks (17 weeks 3 days) gestation as determined by ultrasound is considered to be in the second trimester. The abortion procedure for a second trimester abortion is done in two steps and in two separate days to allow the body time to prepare for the second trimester procedure.
