Surgical Abortion
We provide Surgical Abortion with twilight anesthesia up to 17 1/2 weeks by Ultrasound using the Vacuum Aspiration method. If you are in the second trimester of your pregnancy (12 to 17 1/2 weeks), you may need to have a two-day procedure. For your comfort and safety this process includes insertion of Laminaria into the entrance of your cervix on the first day. The Laminaria slowly and gently begin opening your cervix overnight in preparation for Vacuum Aspiration on the second day.
On the day of your abortion appointment, you will have an Ultrasound to measure the actual size of your pregnancy. You will have pre-operative blood work and urine testing, a private counseling session with a Health Educator, and a relaxed recovery period with our professional Nursing staff after surgery. You should expect to spend between four and six hours in the center for this entire process.
